Hands on Nutrition Education
for Pregnant and Parenting Teens
Adolescents who become pregnant
may not seek proper medical care during their pregnancy, leading to an increased
risk for medical complications. Pregnant teenagers require special understanding,
medical care, and education- particularly
about nutrition,
infections, substance abuse, and
complications of pregnancy.
Curriculum:

Increase their knowledge of good
nutrition practices for pregnant and post-partum women, infants and
children.

Increase their ability to plan nutritionally
balanced meals/snacks, interpret food labels and select, buy and/or
prepare appropriate foods to meet their own and family needs.
Including educating them on WIC and how to create healthy meals with
the selection of foods on the WIC program.

Instruction in the culinary field,
sanitary habits, creating a meal that will feed your family for 2-3
days, The do's and don'ts in the kitchen and when preparing food.
(All the safety/hazards in the kitchen)

Improve their dietary behavior and
intake. As well as having a positive impact of their self-esteem
and self worth.

Educating them on pre-natal vitamins
and their baby's health as well as their own.
Our Culinary Art Program is led by culinary
chef, Tracy Parsinen. Tracy Studied and graduated from le Cordon Bleu
in Paris. She is also degreed in early childhood development and holds
a registered nanny degree from London. She presently owns her own
successful catering business "Parsley & Thyme".
ARTSNET is currently implementing
this program at Keys Learning Center and is wanting to offer this program
to the 6 Independent School Districts in North Tarrant county.
