Most of you are used to hearing from me regarding area Chamber events, but my interests and volunteer work go beyond that. This year I am co-chairing the “Taste of Northeast” for ARTSNET (the arts council for North Tarrant County ). Many of you may have attended a MasterWorks series which provides quality entertainment for over 10,000 residents in North Tarrant County and is always FREE OF CHARGE, or you may have had a child attend Summer Arts College ; last year we had over 300 children attend, 25% of those children were given scholarships, so that no child was turned away. ARTSNET also partners with the Texas Commission of the Arts to raise matching funds to provide much needed dollars to area Independent School Districts and non-profits that support the arts in North Tarrant County .

This year ARTSNET has added 2 new endeavors, “Art Therapy for Veterans” and “K.E.Y.S. to Art” an Arts and education program that has two elements, Culinary Arts, which teaches cooking skills and nutrition to teen mothers and Visual Arts for disadvantaged youth, enabling troubled young adults to express on canvas or paper what they can’t verbalize. Both of these new programs have had extremely successful results.

I could go on & on, but I will get to the point of my message: The major fundraiser for ARTSNET is the “Taste of Northeast”. This annual event attracts between 1,500 and 2,000 attendees who enjoy “tastes” of wonderful food and drink supplied by 45 – 50 area restaurants and entertainment from various artists and musicians. We are excited to return to North East Mall for our 3 rd year on August 2, from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. North East Mall has over 25,000 visitors daily, creating a highly visible event for our participants and our sponsors.
