Painting Supply List for Grisaille Underpainting
with Glazes

Brushes:
Bristle filbert, two # 3 or # 4
Script liners, # 0 or # 1
Flat Nylon, Synthetic Mongoose (my favorite) or Sable Brushes, variety of sizes, # 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Blending brushes – Very soft sable or nylon brushes will do.

Paint:
For underpainting
:
Burnt Sienna
Raw Umber  
Flake White or Flake White Hue (doesn’t have the lead in it like regular Flake White.  I use Flake white because it dries faster than Titanium or Zinc. or Titanium white acrylic (if painting with acrylics)  

For glazing:
Burnt Sienna
French ultramarine
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium red medium
Cadmium yellow medium
Caput Mortem Violet oil (Rembrandt)
Stil De Grain Yellow (Rembrandt) – optional 

Glaze Medium
For Oils:  Linseed oil & Liquin
For Acrylics:  A drying retardant medium
Canvas, 16 x 20 stretched and gessoed (pre-purchased ones are already gessoed)
Odorless Mineral Spirits or Turpenoid
Containers for Mineral Spirits, Oil and Liquin (tuna cans or cat food cans are good)
Paper towels
Tracing paper, graphite paper, pencils
Krylon workable fixative
